1. The crown on the tree commemorates a Royal visit to Goole in 1933 when Prince George presented the town with its Charter of Incorporation, making it a municipal borough. The Prince planted an oak tree in West Park to mark the occasion.
2. In February 1963 a van carrying the Beatles home from a concert in Hull skidded at Burton's Corner and ran into the factory fence. George Harrison later appeared before Goole Magistrates charged with driving without due care and attention.
